Ocean Speedway

We had a fun little adventure on Saturday night. A few months back, Preston checked out some books from the library on Formula One race cars and sprint racing. The books said there are lots of raceways, so we thought we'd see if there was one near us so he could actually watch a real race. Sure enough, thanks to Google, we found a race track right by the ocean and Preston was super excited to go. As we were walking up to the bleachers, we went at the wrong moment and got totally sprayed with mud chunks as the cars were warming up for the races. We had mud in our ears, hair and faces. That scared the kids a bit, but once we got some seats at the top of the stadium and sat down to watch, they had fun. The cars were pretty loud, the crowd was a little different than what we are used to, but it was great doing something a little different. After four hours on the hard benches with tired little kids, we decided we'd better hit the road for our hour drive and Preston didn't want to leave. He says he wants to be a race car driver when he grows up. We are hoping he changes his mind...This is a bad picture, but this was a race with Micro 600's. I wish we would have gotten a close up of some of the cars. They were cool. I guess you just have to check out a book or raceway for yourself.
